Hello all,
My name is Kenneth Pilcher, I reside in Houston, TX, and this is my 4th class in pursuit of my Master’s in Banking & Financial Services Management.
I work for Experian Information Services where I am responsible for a Partner development function. My wife is an assistant chief attorney for ExxonMobil and we have three kids, each four years apart. The oldest graduated from Rice University in 2010, the middle son is a sophomore at Emerson College in Boston and our daughter is a sophomore in high school. My daughter plays travel softball and is a pitcher. As a result, we spend a lot of time together traveling all over the country during the summer with her team playing ball and now that she is a sophomore we are beginning to visit colleges. Because I am such a believer in the power of youth athletics, done right, in my next career I hope to find a way to develop a business that involves youth sports. So if your wondering, that is the reason for the glove and baseball background. Between the kids, my wife and school, we maintain a wonderfully fast paced lifestyle.
I am excited to take this course because so much of what we do and will do in the future is through the internet and involves e-commerce. I do wish the course had some time where all the students could come together face to face but the online class offers many advantages. That said, I do struggle when its 2:00 am and challenged by an assignment that I cannot complete and there is nothing but a sinking feeling of isolation. On one such occasion, I actually got so frustrated working on a financial accounting case study that in the wee hours of a Sunday morning I engaged the use of “our e-commerce system” and withdrew from the course. Thanks to the encouraging support of my wife, I ended up calling for assistance on Monday morning so that I could be readmitted. I was lucky because the team at BU was not only empathetic but also helped get me back on track!
As we work together as a team, I would like to thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts and ideas. It is the process of working together and sharing that enriches the learning experience and I look forward to working with you all. I am interested in what has been your high point while completing your degree program at Boston University and what has been your low point. How did you overcome the low point and what do you and your family do to celebrate your accomplishments.

PS. If any of you live in Houston please let me know.
Hey Kenneth,
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you, and good luck as well. I have two kids as well (girls 3 and 5) and with work, soccer and Sunday school, a wife who works full time covering international offices and my own 24x7 job requirements for work; I truly feel your pain and empathize with the long hours and hectic lifestyle. I know you'll agree its all worth it in the end! I have to tell you, I really like your idea for a future career and an active lifestyle is key to so many youth that just don't realize it. Maybe we will partner up and I'll add the healthy eating component to the active lifestyle and knock this obesity epidemic out of the park. (Baseball pun intended).
Good Luck with the course and don't hesitate to reach out for help if I can.
Best,
Jake
Jake,
ReplyDeleteThanks for reviewing my first blog ever. Since my kids are all older, our busy activities are a little different no doubt. I remember reading the book Puppy Too Small to my daughter at 3 and 5 and we still trade a hug, kiss and squeeze even as a 16 year old. I look forward to working with you.
Kenneth
Hi Ken,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog. I am also pursuing a MS in Banking and Finance.
I like the layout, design, and layout of your blog.
The pictures is amazing.

Hi Kenneth,
ReplyDeleteHopefully we can help to inspire each other to keep going! I too have a lot on plate. Not only am I taking this class, but am also taking one other at a completely different school. It's going to be challenging to say the least. Good luck to you!
I think the design of your blog is nice. My only suggestion would be to think about widening the blog portion a bit and narrowing the sides. What do you think?
Best,
Kristin Bachman
Hey Ken,
ReplyDeleteReally like the blog...the family has some wonderful memories of Kingwood. Our kids were little back then but we lived on a dead end and the street was like a park with all the neighborhood kids having a great time.
Like I related before, really like your blog. Maybe a couple of links of things that are of interest you. Beyond that, a great start.
Look forward to working with you this session.
Robert
Hey Ken,

Maria
Hi Kenneth,
ReplyDeleteAwesome job with the blog! The Baseball background really adds a lot to it!

Hey Kenneth,
ReplyDeleteHope all is well.
Your theme of the sports background along with your involvement is youth sports is perfect.
I am in NJ but always connected through Houston on my way to El Paso. Keep up the good work as I know some of these courses can be quite challenging, especially when we have to work and continue to be a good father & husband.
Look forward working with you in the class.

Hi Kenneth,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. We have chosen the same program. Perhaps we can share our experience.
Good luck to your class.

Hi Kenneth,
ReplyDeleteFrom one of your fellow classmates, I’m with you on those assignments that last into the wee-hours of the morning; I’ve been there myself. I must compliment you on the construction of your very thorough blog. Good luck in class.
